Mom was right! I'm not deaf enough!

This afternoon what a shock when I was doing my pre-dinner blogging, that Cochlear Implant Online http://cochlearimplantonline.com/blog/?p=195 has been removed from DeafRead site. I decided to read CI Online and other bloggers. I'm flabbergasted since when is volunteering with an organization a commerical site.

We can sugar coat it anyway you want, plain and simple, Rachel's views are viewed as not d/Deaf enough.

What this is, is censorship. Instead of DeafRead being a resource for all hard of hearing, deaf, and Deaf persons; it is now a place that limits ideas and information. Where else did I find out about how important unity is? Where else did I learn that you should fingerspell parsley and other spices? Where else did I learn how outspoken and interesting Jodi is? Where else can I go to find out what happens on Hell's Kitchen? Or even lessons in transplants and implants? It is more than just a site to me, it is a place to learn more about my life.

To remove Rachel's site is just wrong. Don't sugar coat it! We are intelligent enough to read between the lines.

Mom was right,
To others I will never be d/Deaf enough
Guess others aren't either!

So DeafRead reflect and review your decision. DeafRead should be a site that encourages all parts of d/Deaf Life.
"Suppose you have tried and failed again and again. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down."

Good Luck Rachel, Elizabeth, and Cochlear Implant Online. Your site is bookmarked.

There is no sugar coating this decision. It has no basis and it a ridiculous.

Yep-- I've learned a lot here too. I love what you wrote about your mom and not being deaf enough. The late-deaf walk a fine line. We're never fully accepted, except amongst our own. If we claim to be deaf, we're never deaf enough because we don't sign. If we pretend to be hearing, we're accused of not facing our deafness. . . Smiles, Kim:-)

that's a nice opinion. I respect it; its from your own unique upbringing.

sorry to hear that you are not as deaf as you want to be; but i'm here to tell you that you are as deaf as you are.

That's a'okay. i love ya, i look forward to your next post.

Thanks all - There should always be support within our community. Not the deaf community or the Deaf Community or the CI community, just our community!

It is amazing to see my fellow bloggers show up for support. Whether you believe it or not, we look forward to reading the words of each other. Our words and comments bring friendship and understanding. No one understands our journey better than someone who has been there, going there, or help someone get there. Some of us have been together since the first part of the journey and have a strong bond.

dog food, where have you been? I missed ya.

Lane, where is my e-mail?? I look forward to it.

This is too bad that this is happening.

I, too, am deaf and was mainstreamed in the hearing world. . .speak orally, have a husband and wonderful family, went to college, work as an accountant, etc. etc. etc. Yet I cannot hear when I take my ears off.

Am I deaf enough?

DeafRead needs to be careful . . .never underestimate the blogging world. I'm finding this story every where I go this morning!

You said, "...it is now a place that limits ideas and information." Sorry to disagree but they were always limiting ideas and information in subtle and not so subtle ways. Remember the DeafRead Extra fiasco, the "deafhood" blog issues? There has always been controversy swirling around Tayler and his editors.

Where else can you go? Just visit Google and type in deaf blogs, cochlear implant blogs and similar terms. You'll find many without the aid of an aggregator.

Just my two cents.

I gotta admit, when someone insults deaf people, they shouldn't be allowed on deafread. Would a racist post be allowed on a black aggregator? I'm not surprised with Taylor's decision.

Anonymous,
Who is insulting deaf people? I wonder too. First of all Rachel is deaf and I am deaf too. Tayler should just come out and say, I don't want this blog on my site. Not bring up this false charge.
